Donna Boyette, a technical writer in Cary and founder of WriterPeople.com, seeks manuscripts to be included in one of three anthologies she plans to publish next year.

Sue Austin, a licensed massage and bodywork therapist and owner of Suething Touch in Cary, received her certification from the International Institute of Reflexology.
Patrician W. Smith, M.D., a Raleigh ophthalmologist, now offers Laser Assisted Subepithelial Keratectomy (LASEK), a refractive eye surgery requiring no incision.
Angela Padgett, owner of Skin Sense day spa, is opening a third location. The new spa is at Brier Creek Commons in Raleigh.

Marieke Mauro and Joanna Ng were second- and third-place winners, respectively, of the 2004 Wade Edwards Short Fiction Awards. The foundation seeks entries from the state’s high-school juniors for its 2005 Short Fiction Award. The deadline is March 1, 2005.
Artspace, a nonprofit visual art center in Raleigh, seeks volunteer docents to lead tours of artists’ studios and exhibits.
Rachel Schanberg, director and founder of the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program, won the inaugural Inspiration Award from the Professional Women’s Network.
Mary Cantando, president of WomanBusinessOwner.com, a Raleigh-based consulting firm, and author of “Nine Lives: Stories of Women Business Owners Landing on Their Feet,” was selected by the Women’s Forum of North Carolina to be a judge for the Young Adult Leadership Awards. Also, Cantando was named to the steering committee of the Women’s Business Enterprise Council’s Southeast Regional Business Fair and Silent Auction.
Karen Ross, president of Montgomery’s Florist in Raleigh, was last month’s featured speaker for the Raleigh Professional Women’s Forum. Also, Ross was named to the 2004-2005 Business Institute Task Force for the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce.
Patty Briguglio, president of MMI Associates in Raleigh, was named to the North Carolina Leadership Council of the National Federation of Independent Business.
The Women’s Institute, an organization to empower women to achieve equality in business leadership, joined the Council for Entrepreneurial Development as an alliance partner to help support Triangle business owners. The institute moderated a panel on the record number of female entrepreneurs. Panelists included: Katherine Sliva, president of the institute as well as president and principal consultant of KELS Consulting; Judy Gerard, president and co-founder of Llamawerx; Patti Gillenwater, president and CEO of Elinvar; Karin H. Patrick, practice owner of a Northwestern Mutual Financial Network; and Margaret Rosenfeld, corporate and securities attorney with Smith, Anderson, Blount, Dorsett, Mitchell & Jernigan.
Child Care Services Association in Chapel Hill is holding the “I Don’t Have to Cook for a Month” raffle, in which the winner receives 30 meals from Triangle restaurants. Sue Russell is president of the organization. Raffle tickets may be purchased until Dec. 15.
Cancer Centers of North Carolina in Raleigh, formerly Raleigh Hematology & Oncology Associates, is local presenting sponsor of the ninth annual Komen N.C. Triangle Race for the Cure, which will be held June 11, 2005.
