Dr. C. Neill McLeod, the first female president of a community college in North Carolina, recently retired from her post as senior vice president of student services at Wake Technical Community College. Also, the college’s board of trustees honored outgoing member Lide Anderson of Raleigh for her 12 years of service.
Kelly MarCom, a Sanford-based marketing firm headed by Shelley Kelly, and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction developed “Marketing Technology and Media,” a new business course for high-school students.
Joy Lumpkin of Raleigh and Tammy Strain of Cary received scholarships from the Women Business Owners Network-Cary. The scholarships are funded through a silent-auction luncheon.
Durham-based jazz vocalist Nnenna Freelon recently released her new CD, “Blueprint of a Lady — Sketches of Billie Holiday.”
Durham poet Kim Arrington published her first book of poetry, “the lapis dwellers.” She also was nominated for Best Female Poet of 2005 at the National Underground Spoken Word and Poetry Awards.
Susan Hecht of Cary joined the roster of artists represented by the Garden Gallery in Raleigh.
Frankie W. Dudley of Raleigh wrote and illustrated a children’s book, “A Book of Poems and Stories.”
Christa McClary McElveen of Raleigh co-authored her first children’s book, “Don’t Tell That to Beasley,” with her sister, Tara McClary Reeves.
Local photographer Catherine Carter is a judge for the photography competition held by the Mental Health Association in Orange County.
