Hannah Gage was elected the first woman to lead the board of governors at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Gage, the founder and former owner of Cape Fear Broadcasting Co. in Wilmington, has been on the board since 2001 and serves as chair of its committee on personnel and tenure. Gage graduated from UNC-CH in 1975. Estelle Sanders, the mayor of Roper, N.C., was re-elected board secretary. The board sets policy for the 17 schools in the UNC system.
Michelle Rich Goode, president and founder of Rich Commercial Realty in Raleigh, received the Meredith College 2008 Alumnae Philanthropy Award, given to an alumna who has demonstrated her commitment to Meredith through her involvement in the life of the college and her philanthropy.

Suzanne Rousso is the new artistic director for Mallarmé Chamber Players, based in Durham. She replaces founder Anna Ludwig Wilson, who is retiring after 25 years. Mallarmé is a nationally acclaimed group of professional musicians, performing in mixed ensembles of three to seven artists.
Local playwright Kim Moore’s “Give It Up, Turn It Loose,” a contemporary play developed from a series of monologues, will be produced by Raleigh’s Theatre in the Park in August.
