Butterfly Life, a fitness club designed for women, released a podcast discussing its sponsorship of the second annual Ride for the Cure last month. In the podcast, Sunita Shouse, co-owner of the Raleigh branch of Butterfly Life, discusses its support of the Ride for the Cure and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Terry Cichocki, owner of the Cary branch, joined Shouse in support of the event, a 50- to 60-mile open-ride motorcycle rally with 100 percent of the net proceeds benefiting the foundation.
The Cash Management Connection, publishers of the KIDSCA$H and MYCA$H lines of workbooks and classroom curricula, has released a new e-book, “Talk To Your Kids About Money Before They Hear It From Somebody Else.” The e-book is based on dozens of workshops conducted by Chapel Hill-based author and company owner Maureen Dolan Rosen.

Marilyn Saylor, president of The Wine Merchant of Raleigh and Cary, the oldest independent wine store in the Triangle, said it has purchased the newest technology in wine-dispensing equipment. The wine card allows customers to purchase a card and sample 12 wines in the store. The Wine Merchant is the first retailer east of the Mississippi to have this equipment.
Gayle Ackerman DiLalla, M.D., F.A.C.S joined Tolnitch Surgical Associates of Raleigh, which specializes in the care of women with breast disease. DiLalla, who has been in practice 16 years, is board certified in general surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Association of Women Surgeons and the N.C. Medical Society.
Raleigh’s Gynecology and Laparoscopic Surgeons announced that Dr. Lisa Roberts was on the faculty for the AAGL (formerly the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists) comprehensive workshop on minimally invasive gynecology for residents and fellows, which took place last month in Massachusetts.

April Mills, co-chair of the seventh annual Big Bad Ball, announced that it has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Capital City Club in Raleigh. The Big Bad Ball is a black-tie event hosted by the Young Executives Board of the Capital City Club. This year's event will include live music, a silent auction, door prizes, and a raffle and will benefit Hospice of Wake County.
Pamela Highsmith was named chief executive officer of the Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education in Raleigh. Kim Raynor, vice president of business development, had been serving as interim CEO. Highsmith has been the associate executive director of the N.C. Medical Society Foundation for the past 11 years. The Poe Center provides interactive health education programs for North Carolina youth.
Jennifer Terry, president of the board of advisors of the Me Fine Foundation, announced that Helen Schinkel, CFO and vice president of The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences, has been named to Me Fine’s board of advisors. The foundation provides assistance for children and families at Duke Children’s Hospital and the N.C. Children’s Hospital at the University of North Carolina.
The Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild, based in Raleigh, said Janice Mrkonjic, president of Savvy Event Designs, was hired as executive director of the 2008 Carolina Designer Craftsmen Show. On Thanksgiving weekend, more than 100 professional craftspeople will gather for the fall craft festival and sale, to be held at the Exposition Center at the N.C. State Fairgrounds in Raleigh.
