Phaedra Kelly joined the ArtsCenter in Carrboro as the ArtSchool assistant.

Lynne Taylor-Corbett will choreograph "Carolina Jamboree," a ballet set to the music of Chapel Hill 's Red Clay Ramblers, for the Carolina Ballet, the Raleigh-based professional company.

The Durham School of the Arts Chorale won the first-annual Triangle Youth Chorus Trophy, commissioned by TriangleSings!, an online resource for local choral musicians.

The following North Carolina writers are featured in the Showcase of Women Authors at Raleigh 's Southern Women's Show, taking place this month: Susan Byrum Rountree, Cheryl McClary, Mary Cantando, Hunter Darden, Lorraine Stephens, Tracy Daley, AlexSandra Lett, Cecilia Budd Grimes, Patti Fralix, Dr. Lauren Durant, Cher Holton and Barbara Hemphill.

Business

The Cotton Company, a retail store and art gallery in Wake Forest , launched a new Web site at www.thecottoncompany.com, featuring interactive pages, an events calendar and information on the resident artists. Elizabeth Johnson is the owner of The Cotton Company.

Jenny McLaurin opened BIZU, a jewelry store in Pittsboro.

Bliss Alexander joined Anoroc, a Raleigh advertising, marketing and graphic-design firm, as a graphic designer. Also, the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra hired the firm to create an identity campaign.

V.K. Fields & Co., a Raleigh public-relations and copywriting firm, now offers ghostwriting for speeches. Valerie Fields is the company's CEO.

Cary-based advertising agency r+m creative has changed its name to R+M to reflect its growth. Beverly R. Murray is the president and founder of the agency.

Sheila Ogle, CEO of Media Research Planning and Placement in Cary , was named the first Business Champion of the N.C. National Federation of Independent Business. She also received the national Office Depot Businesswoman of the Year award.

Karin Patrick, a financial representative with the Carolina Condrey Group of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network in Raleigh , is the first female winner of the Jack Wardlaw Salesperson of the Year award sponsored by the Raleigh Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.

Robin Bennett joined UndercoverWear, a home-party lingerie company, as a Raleigh sales agent.

Janice Russell, "overseer of order" at Minding Your Matters Professional Organizing, received a certificate of study in the basic physical conditions of chronic-disorder clients from the National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization.

Alexandria Ferguson joined North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Durham as communications officer.

Health

Michele Gallagher was named chief legal officer of Integrated Clinical Trial Services, a full-service patient-enrollment firm in Cary .

Dr. Angela Baylis, a chiropractor at Iatria Health Center , now offers treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome, including rehabilitation therapy, ergonomic solutions and diet alteration to control inflammation and swelling.

Duke University Health System launched a redesigned Web site (http://DukeHealth.org) to help consumers and patients stay informed and healthy.

Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center in Raleigh received three-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

A video produced by Caregiver 101, a Raleigh-based facility for assistants of incapacitated, critically ill or terminal patients, received the 2004 Caregiver Friendly Award, presented by Today's Caregiver, a magazine for families and professionals.

Organizations

Pam Kohl was appointed district director of the Raleigh office of U.S. Rep. Brad Miller.

Mary Cantando, Raleigh author of "Nine Lives: Stories of Women Business Owners Landing on Their Feet," participated in the National Women's Council Forum of the Women's Business Enterprise National Council in Washington , D.C. She also spoke at the "Women Trading Globally" conference presented by RBC Financial Group in Vancouver , British Columbia .

Ann Upchurch Collier, a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, won one of only 15 Luce Scholarships, which offer year-long internships in Asia.
