Cheerful togs in a kaleidoscope of color are trending. Spring and summer are made for fun, the arbiters of style are saying, and even though things around us (think national news) aren't joyful, clothing can be. Here's a glance at some of the spirited and spicy looks that are showing up in the Triangle.

 

 

Wet N' Wild

Garments are turned out in rubberized and plastic materials (yup, you read that right). It might make sense for sporty, waterproof clothing. But the wet look is also seen in pencil skirts and dresses as well as other chic silhouettes, making for an interesting season from Apex to Zebulon.

 

 

Short Stuff

Bermuda shorts and bike shorts, the ultimate in comfy staples, are back. There are, of course, twists: A preppy version may be incorporated in a suit and a sporty style may be rendered in silk and lace. Hot and humid out? Consider wearing a tailored shorts suit that ends at the knee to your Research Triangle Park office.

 

A Clear Craze

When it comes to sheer, there are two choices for Triangle women. One: Invest in snazzy underthings and leave little to the imagination with see-through dresses and skirts. Two: Choose garments that go further to protect your privacy by incorporating transparency in bits and pieces of peekaboo.

Whether you browse North Hills or Southpoint, you'll see an eclectic mix of garments on the racks this season. Here are more fresh takes: glitzy sequins; sporty accents; puff sleeves; slip dresses; flowy frocks; asymmetrical necklines; flared pants; handkerchief hems; decorative straps; tiered skirts; prominent logos; track pants; punk designs; and both '60s and '80s throwbacks.
