Pack away the warm-weather wear you rocked during days at Jordan Lake and nights at Durham Bulls games, and start breaking out your fashionable fall attire.

 

Get inspired to say "so long" to shorts and tanks and "hello" to cardigans and jackets by checking out the runways of New York Fashion Week.

 

Models sported the season's most in-vogue gear, trends that can be adjusted into wearable looks for the streets of the Triangle.

 

Here are the season's most striking styles:

 

Noticeable neutrals

You don't always need bold, bright and "look-at-me" colors to get noticed! Neutrals ranging from beige to brown to gray to classic black are popular and flattering on everyone.

 

The key to pulling this off in a not-so-bland way is to wear the subtle colors in a dramatic manner. To make these garments more daring, try pieces with deep necklines and multiple layers to contrast with the simple hues.

 

 

 

 

 

Gorgeous geometrics

With sleek lines and bold shapes, strong geometric prints take center stage. Dashes of color make these prints flashy, yet classy.

 

The best part? Patterns work to highlight your best features. Curved lines at the bust create shape, darker lines around the waist give the illusion of a tiny torso, and angled lines below the hips lengthen the upper leg.

 

Geometric designs make a big statement, so flashy accessories are unnecessary. Keep the jewelry to a minimum and go for black or nude shoes.

 

 

 

Feminine fabrics

Swap out cotton for some of the season's daintiest materials. Models flaunted their femininity in lace dresses, shirts and cardigans, as well as flowy chiffon pieces.

 

These lightweight fabrics are great for Indian summer in the Triangle. Once the days start to cool off, try pairing girlish garb with an edgier piece like a leather jacket for an outfit that screams style.

Florals are here to stay for another season. Models floated down the fall runways in vibrant, head-to-toe blooms.
