Statement pieces steal the shows
From downtown darlings to ladies who lunch, Triangle women have a lot to love this season. Right-now outfits feature lush, handsome clothes we’d happily slip on for a play at the Durham Performing Arts Center or a conference at the Raleigh Convention Center.
Whimsical? Wild? Fugheddaboudit! Runways at New York Fashion Week were filled with classics made mod. These riffs on tradition allow us to easily curate our own collections by blending new purchases from Triangle stores with pieces from our closets.
Fall’s wearable trends include the colors red (whether bright or deep, as shown here), camel and gray; brilliant coverings for legs; belts that tie a look together; both rich and sheer fabrics; voluminous drama (especially on top); sculptural effects; metallic and jewel tones; structured standouts; and garments we stole from the boys.

Gorgeous gray
What could better represent fall’s sleek, refined garments than the color gray? Look for simple silhouettes turned stylish in smart, polished outfits. Other ultra-feminine twists are billowy layers and belts, belts, belts!

Creative color
What’s your fave shade? You’re likely to find it in an intense, saturated block among the clean lines of this fall’s fresh trends. Glam ideas also include pea coats borrowed from the boys and ankle boots with peep toes.

All that glitters
Gold’s glossy shine brings a twinkle to wardrobes. If sporting one piece, such as a dress, opt for a muted hue. The simple way to hop on this bandwagon? Accessorize with mixed metals.

Sexy sheer
Whether flowing or structured, sheer fabrics play supporting roles in this fall’s drama. The delicate materials typically decorate the edges of dresses and skirts, but see-through underlayering pieces are current, too.
